What’s that item that everyone’s got in their closet (tones of them actually) but which never makes the fashion cut as often as it should? Ding Ding! Yes you guessed it. Why it’s the T-shirt of course. For the past year or so plain T-shirts, like super basic white & black have been making quite the true understated statement. Courtesy of the Olsens perhaps? They’ve sure got a knack for pairing the most plain white t-shirt with some ripped jeans or posh trousers, making it look uber trendy, effortless and chic. Throw in some hot heels and damn girl you’ll be crossing the streets on your way to work like those cool models in between fashion shows! I really do think this T-shirt mania is turning into quite the trend and I love it. As of lately though, the plain Jane of fashion clothes has umped up its game, and with a helping hand of those grunge 90s, we’re all donning in despair the IT top of the moment: the Vintage Inspired T-shirt. Should it have remained stuck in the grunge era or not? By the likes of it, I’m quite inclined to say hell no, it’s the most amazing comeback! I can’t believe it’s cool again to wear silly text t-shirts & my fave band or musician’s face all over the once plain fabric. I’d sure like to see some posh business woman heading to work in her Kings of Leon T-shirt and a black suit.  Though it was never gone from retail, catwalks or the streets, the T-shirt does seem to get more attention these days. We’re all probably sick of silky tops and leather jackets so we’re rocking the edgy style differently: bad-ass Tee and business blazer. What I love about the T-shirt look is the chicness and the feeling I get from the one wearing them: relaxed, doesn’t take themselves too seriously yet manages to make a style statement. It looks amazing and put together paired with trousers and a blazer. It’s edgy and rock’sih with a leather jacket. Super fun and sexy with cutoffs (depends if your wearing boots or pumps) and extremely fashion forward tucked in a funky skirt. It allows us to clash styles brilliantly.

How to style the basic T-shirt? How To style the Fun & Vintage Inspired T-shirts?  So before you take a look at that tee pile lying in your closet and pretend to not hear the GYM alarm it once bared, take a deep breath. It’s OK now to wear t-shirt elsewhere than the gym. Actually it’s a sign of sophistication (thus betraying your inner fashionista) to don plain t-shirts & vintage inspired ones any given time of day & night, from the most conservative office to the most posh working environment.  AND pull it through all the way into the cocktail drinks and dinner after work meetings / parties. Not to mention: on weekends the choices are limitless (read cutoffs and t-shirt; jeans and slouchy tee; skirt and that vintage Guns’n Roses t-shirt). Oh and one more thing (OMG almost forgot the best part)… if you’re running out of cool t-shirts, or you get those days when your packed closet actually looks empty… this T Trend flashes the free card to your naughty side. Stealing. (did you think of something else or what?) Get your hands on your boyfriend’s T-shirts. For a cool look make sure you roll up the sleeves and slightly tuck them in. Pile on jewellery, amazing nails & red lips for an urban feminine style.

Back in the day draping yourself in denim was a fashion faux-pas, but as fashion is by definition a multitude of uncertainties (in a good way) and constant changes, today, Denim On Denim has turned into a massive trend. For the past two years I think this Duo Denim Trend is trying to make a way and settle in as that uber cool look any respectable fashionista can don without looking like a fashion victim. And since practice makes perfect, its hard work paid off, and Denim On Denim or Denim Head To Toe Trend are suppose to be huge in 2013 Spring and Summer. Not a new invention in the least, still feels good though to know it’s perfectly fine to keep on rocking the denim top with any type of bottoms, given they are denim too. What’s the catch? No catch. Though it used to be ”don’t do same color denim on denim” but eff that, you know. Don’t let anyone tell you to not wear something when it looks amazing and you’re just having fun with it. So how to wear denim on denim? However you like it, but just for the sake of the fashion game let’s play along  Let the games begin! Colors: all is in. From the most dark wash to the most light, denim has never looked so cool and never been quite in the fashion spotlight as this season. I suppose since the hot season is right around the corner (yeah still waiting on that one) we’ve got tons of freedom color wise and light wash ripped denim jeans look fabulous with heels (for a fancy get-together) and with loafers or gladiator sandals for a casual comfy stroll. Dark wash denim may be just the right choice for a smarter look, a bit more classy and sophisticated. Think work. Tops vs Bottoms: jeans, shorts & skirts AND shirts, jackets or T-shirt (haven’t found any, but just think how cool they’d look… denim T-shirt) are all in.

For instance when talking DENIM as a 2013 Trend one might assume a certain type of cut, design and color are in, but no… it’s a heaven I tell you. So if shopping is not on your list, you can still look uber cool with what I’m sure you can find in your closet, from those 90′s. Yeah this too is a 90′s comeback, slightly more polished and girly but we’ve all done it back in the day. What’s it like today?

• Denim jeans: skinny, bell bottom, flared, dark to super light wash, ripped or proper, high waisted or low waisted, boot cut, boyfriend jeans.
• Denim shorts: cutoffs, dark to light wash, uber short or right above the knee, tight or large.
• Denim tops: slouchy or tight shirt, light wash, dark wash, vintage inspired or posh, patched, tucked in or not, rolled up sleeves.
• Denim skirts: pencil skirts, skater skirts, long skirts, ripped, light/dark wash et all.

Denim Jeans look Denim Cutoffs look Denim Skirt / Dress look My fave look at the moment is definitely a denim pencil skirt and denim shirt. Remember Rihanna’s outfit a few days ago? With nude pumps? I. Am. In. Love. With. This. Look. There’s just something so laid back, refreshing and yet vintage classy about the denim on denim look that I find it irresistible.  It’s sophisticated and chic, easily dressed up & down, and a pair of heels and some jewellery can do wonders to an all-denim outfit! It’s got that urban-boho woman vibe  meets geek-classy-sassy girl to it, and I love it!

‘‘If you’re going to San Francisco (read anywhere actually) be sure to wear some flowers”… on your clothes. In prints that is. YES the Floral Print Trend is back for 2013 Spring & Summer, but that is no big surprise, I really don’t think it was, or ever will be gone. As you can’t have fall without the dark hues and thick fabrics, you certainly can’t have a hot season without (1) Floral Prints, (2) Light & white colors and fabrics. What is different though in 2013 Spring is the retro feeling and Sicilian vibe I get from all those flower printed clothes & accessories. And that’s another great new thing, flowers are invading not just the same cliche items (tops and bottoms) but bags, shoes, headwraps, earrings, tiny fashion bits that you never even imagined could carry an array of nicely scented roses & buds. Ah… a very romantic, boho-chic & retro style. Think Dolce & Gabbana and that should sum it up. To avoid any fashion predicament you might think you’re in, and the frenzy that comes with figuring out what type of flowers are in, or what size should they be, I say breathe. Let’s just enjoy fashion and have loads of fun with it. Sure nobody wants to don a, what they think is a cool floral vintage bag that actually looks dull and dated… but honestly who gives a damn about the strict fashion lines. I don’t even think we’re suppose to. Not unless we wish to be labeled as fashion victims. And at the end of the day fashion is about getting creative… But just to have an idea that you can put at the back of your mind for that ”just in case” moment, according to designers the Floral Prints this season are either super big and not crowded OR tiny and understated. Pick your type and roll with it, although… let’s get real here… if you love clashing floral prints and wearing a crowded garden on your outfit (I know I do), nothing wrong with it, right? On what to wear those Florals this season? Floral Printed Trousers are huge. They’ve got that retro feeling to them of  that uber cool Americana look (think 1950′s women dancing on Lana del Rey songs). Colors: ice-cream shades, dusted little flowers or bright big roses are all in. For an understated very classy yet retro look Jennifer Lopez’s collection at Kohls has got some pretty impossible to resist pieces: tiny floral printed trousers, floral printed blouse & dress. Which brings me to the other items florals are landing on this spring, but not before I let you check out JLo’s clothes at Kohls.

When it comes to piling on jewellery or sacrificing an ear lob for that way too heavy & huge, but oh-so-fab statement earring – I’m all for it! Nothing is ever too much or hurts at all when it comes to fashion. High uncomfortable shoes? Yeah, I’ll take them. Too tight jeans or too loose to barely stay on, thank God for that cool belt? Yeah, I’ll take those too. Too many rings, necklaces & bracelets? There’s no such thing. For the past year or so, though, big rings have taken the backseat for those super thin small ones, which, guess what? Are so tiny they don’t even fit properly. Unless you call your finger knuckles the proper place. Errrr… well yeah. Why not? Cause that’s what Knuckle Rings are: tiny thin rings in gold or silver that are so femininely and sweet resting on finger knuckles & subtly adorning your look by adding just the right bling. Can’t believe I’m saying this (jewellery wise) but… sometimes (just sometimes) less is more.  How to wear them? Just casually throw them on your knuckles and rock them with absolutely any outfit from sporty chic to super glam. From office to parties. They look sophisticated and chic. For extra sweetness opt for those tiny ones with a simple heart or flower shape. Or if you like to keep it super simple just go with plain circles. Can’t give up on bold pieces just yet? Breathe… knuckle rings can be piled on, and also come in statement designs that will make you look super posh or quite rock’n roll for that matter depending on what you’re going for.  With a funky nail polish on, your hands will look like they’re having a party all by themselves, and trust me… they will be getting all the attention as you sip your drink, tuck your hair behind your ear or blow someone a kiss or a hello. Who gives a crap what you’re wearing when your fingers look like rock stars? And speaking of rockstars – this knuckle rings trend (for me) is a reinvented and more glam version of a punk/grunge look. OK, so it might be a bit of a stretch but still. Aaaaand… one more thing, speaking of stars this time, celebrities are loving this jewellery trend. A lot. My celeb reference? Drums please. Rihanna! Doh. I think she was among the first to rock the knuckle look or (I might be wrong on this one, so please feel free to contradict) the one who actually started this craze. I absolutely love how she wears them all the time with her super glam nail and tattoos. On a sweeter more feminine take on the celeb knuckle ring trend, Candice Swanepoel is the picture perfect of subtle sophisticated hands.  So lovelies, what do your think about this Knuckle Rings Trend? That Black & White is The Trend this season (click here for more) is no news flash to anyone, but wait… can we assume that Black (and black alone) is a Trend this season? Can we talk about a Summer in Black? I’m sure a summer in White for that matter is way more appropriate, hence the tons of white dresses and all the clothing attire in retail this season. Yet… black has never been so cool and OK to pull off in Summer, as it is in 2013. Well… perhaps apart from those 90′s grunge times, which, anyway are sort of back, and it all probably is a slight reminiscence of those alternative moods and anti-fashions. I would presume (unable to contain my excitement, DOH) that due to a lot of fashion signs happening out there (PUNK met gala, Punk/Rock/Grunge Street Styles, loads of non-colors on the catwalk for this season, loads of dark tones) – it is safe to say that in 2013 it will be OK (actually cool) to wear Black in the middle of Summer. OMG… what took you so long, Trends? Sure it may be a bit uncomfortable if you’re living in desert like temperatures, and the world will probably risk looking like teenage outcasts, but – don’t be hasty just yet. Think about how classy and posh Black is. Or how you can never go wrong with a black dress, a black swimsuit (since we’ve got summer on our minds) or a black top. So, Black for 2013 Summer is a blessing to some and a drag to others. For the latter ones – breathe now… all you color lovers! Keep your summer’ish style intact while doing the black trend, by simply adding a hint of darkness to your look. Trending after all is about adapting it and making it your own, right? Go for bags, shoes, nails, jewellery, tops or bottoms. No rules… remember  Having a green pass to don Black in Summer gives us tons of options in regards to looks and styles we can pull off. Black is versatile and so the options are limitless. A black dress can look classic with heels, can look edgy with boots, boho-chic with sandals, sporty-chic with tennis shoes… and so on. A black suit is classy but can turn to edgy when paired with statement accessories, or a funky top. Black can take you to the office and make you look like a top manager, or place you later on in a bar looking like the most hipster of them all. It will never be dated, never be inappropriate, never be too much or too less. Always easy to dress up or down. Sophisticated and chic when you want to and rebel & edgy when you feel like it. With the grunge trend still on (click here for more) Black can make you look like a reinvented cool version of yourself from back in the day. Cool, effortless, rock’n roll, with that rebel without a cause hint. Still not feeling it? But nevertheless refusing to sit back on this one? Do your own thing then, and throw in just one black item. Well not 50, but enough to get us fashion confused over what sunglasses to choose. What styles are in, and how do you pick yours? Do you stick with it or not? And if you were to choose one, yes ONE type of sunglasses to wear for the rest of your life, which one would it be? When it comes to sunglasses I always feel as if Trends are a bit overrated and it’s not what’s IN one season as much as what looks good on you or what you love to wear. It can be a retro style (that no one else is doing) or even 3 seasons ago hot stuff. Who gives a crap if they’re so last Tuesday as long as you love them, right? Yet… let’s indulge into the Trend Shades for a tiny bit… What is hot for 2013 Summer? I suppose the retro sunglasses, read Cat-Eye Shades or even super crazy styles, cause of the ’60′s revival you know. With the 90′s trend come the round shades… not my faves, but they do look amazing on some. And then there are the rest of the sunnies that were pretty big in the last seasons, and guess what? Personally I’m not ready to part ways with either of them: Wayfarer & Aviator Sunglasses. Yep… they’re still my faves. And now dolls let’s see each and every one of them and take sides. Whether or not sunglasses should be chosen according to face shape is up to you. I have this theory (I know how crazy right?) that everyone looks good with any type of sunglasses. Sure they can look crazy, funky, classic, rock’n roll, edgy et all, but, a statement or not… they will look great. Anyway, that’s just what I think. Let’s start off with my all time favorite sunglasses: The Wayfarer Shades. They are the sunglasses of my teenage years, those grunge ’90′s when everyone in Beverly Hills 90210 was spotted with them, and every rock star had a pair on for the cool’ness or to hide from the paps. Today they are a nostalgic reminiscence of that, with a bit of poshness to them, and a tiny bohemian vibe. I just feel they always add a bit of edginess and rebelliousness to a look & an outfit, without making it over the top.

The Wayfarer Sunglasses (read above) Then come the Aviator Sunglasses. For me it’s always a battle between these 2: Aviator vs Wayfarer. I can literally never come to terms with my fashion taste on this one. Not that I have to or anything, I mean there are enough sunny days to rock over 150 shades of glasses… I just like to dramatize a little bit. You know for fashion’s sake

Aviator Sunglasses The Retro Sunglasses – they will always be in. Always fit any type of face. On any occasion, at any age.  The Round Sunglasses – these can be a bit tricky as they will not fit all face shapes (contrary to my ”theory”), but if you can pull it off, and strut you hot stuff in them… go for it. They’ve got that hippy retro vibe to them that takes you away to those 60′s Rock Festivals when it was all about the peace and the music. The Funky Shades – now these ones will always be hot, just because there will always be a nut to rock them and look fabulous enough to start a trend. The funky shades are pretty cool and fun so if you’ve got it… flaunt it! Enough rambling and scrolling through options. Let’s decide on ONE Type of Sunglasses. What’s you Shades Style?

Once upon a time us girls saved the white dress for The Day, you know. When we’d all meet that special one and had the best excuse to drape ourselves in white (read princess attire) for one whole day. Well thank God that misconception is gone – of saving the white looks for later and only for one day. Ha! Fast forward a few decades and the same girls need no more excuses to don white in plain day and can save their own asses, thank you. Hell, we can be queens for weeks in a row without having to plan our whole lives ahead, around wearing a white dress. Fairytales and exaggerations (for the sake of a few raised eyebrows and smirks) aside, it does seem, more in 2013 Summer than ever before, that the LBD has gotten the ‘‘Bitch please, it’s my time to shine!” slap from the LWD (little white dress). Ever since the sun hit the skies this spring I keep switching between trends: a few weeks ago it was all neon, then it was all prints (floral, matchy matchy, mismatched et all), then it hit me: black & white (I’m blaming the 60′s Trend on that one), and last week I declared it a Summer in Black. What the hell is wrong with me? Well a lot. But that’s not up for (this) discussion. I’m just telling it like it is, and yes I love that it’s all changing. Fashion does tend to get into the bitchy moods, styles & looks swing. Yeah I know I’ve said that before. Anyway let’s get on with today’s Trend Alert: Summer in White? Actually I think it’s more the Return of the LWD… What do you think?  Has it always been a fashion hit and a common thing to don a white little dress in summer? Or is the floaty little thing a fad of the 2013 hot season? Is it a comeback or a fresh new start? For the past year or so a lot of celebs have been doing the white dress for the red carpet or for going out. Same ones (pretty much) were spotted in the same non-color on the streets, off -duty so to speak. Then, a few Fashion Weeks ago designers were showing collections packed with the absence of color. And now the shops are just stacked on whites. Dresses to be more precise. And the streets are loving it. At first I was somewhat taken aback by this too girly goody-goody look & trend, but you know what? I could’t be more far off. I do love black and more grunge meets punk styles, I know, but… here comes the beauty of it… the white little dress is just as versatile (if not more) than the basic blacks or the funky colors. A short white mini dress might be the perfect choice for an event (hey I’m considering one for next month when I get married at the City Hall). It looks simple, classy and effortless when paired with heels. I love how a LWD looks with gold heeled sandals! I think it’s the ultimate glamour. For a bit of fun go for super colored heels. Keep the dress short, or knee length and go for skin tight designs or loose/floaty ones, depending on your style. For chilly evenings throw over a denim or leather jacket. Do not forget accessories: clutches, jewels, nails, lips etc. Spice it all up girls!  White lace dresses are having a huge comeback, but listen up dolls… you can wear them in plain day, from morning to evening without risking to look as if you’re doing the walk of shame.  Basically any white dress can switch its style in a second with the help of shoes. Hot heels will make it very cocktail appropriate. Black studded ankle boots will make it look edgy, suede colored block heeled ankle boots will give it a boho-chic vibe, sandals will make it all seem summer’ish and cool, ballet pumps will make it look feminine… and so on. Pile on accessories or keep it simple to get it all completed. The more I think about it the more I’m loving this LWD return… You?

Alongside the white tee, the leather jacket and those cutoffs you can’t let go off ever – it seems pretty safe to say the flared mini high-waisted skirt has become a fashion staple. Easily dressed up or down for any season (add your tights & boots in winter, top it off with a chic coat or slouchy warm jumper; or keep your legs bare and play with funky tops while on hot heels or gladiator sandals for summer) – this little skirt is probably the most faltering item in your closet regardless of your body type. It adds curves where there’re not, it hides them if it’s the case, creates long legs due to its high waist and mini cut. And it comes in so many styles and designs it’s a heaven for us girls. But is the Skater Skirt a new trend? Of course not. Which is not bad, it’s a good thing we keep reinventing stuff from the past, but I wouldn’t mind a few new ideas here and there. Anyway… when was the Skater Skirt born? Well… basically somewhere in those kitsch & funky ’80′s, when – listen to this – skating fashion was pretty huge, hence the name of the skirt, inspired by the skating dancers’ styles. I’ve always thought those ice-dancers were the most beautiful and ethereal thing ever, and it’s probably that image that we keep going back to, with the Skater Skirt Trend in 2013 – a sort of multifaceted femininity or careless playful innocent girl, who loves to play dress-up. As I said though, do not for a minute let yourself be fooled by the basic idea of a Skater Skirt and hastily assume that it’s a sartorial choice only for the teens. Since the Skater Skirt has become a Trend in its own right, the styles and looks one can get with this mini flared little thing are a dime a dozen. And one of the big hits the Skater Skirt has had in 2013 would definitely have to be: The Leather Skater Skirt! Probably a tiny step away from the too cute version of the classic skirt, the leather most certainly adds a bit of edge, without looking too punk (unless you want it to) and turning the skater skirt into a fashion choice for all women, regardless of age or job. Remember those Fashion Week street styles? So many fashionistas, editors, photographers were strutting the streets outside the shows in the most adorable and hot leather skater skirts ever. The beauty of this bottom trend is how cool and easy it can look with anything. Sticking to the leather skater skirt, it looks super posh and fashion, in a very glam way with classic pumps, stilettos & high heeled shoes. A blazer will keep the look chic & sophisticated, a leather jacket will make it edgy and a jumper will make it a bit bohemian. High heeled ankle boots make it all look a bit rock’n roll but still girly enough, flat boots are for a casual edgy style, and ballet pumps for those days when you’ve got a lot of leg work to do, but still wanna keep it girly. For the most adorable style, that’ll keep you warm, comfy and looking like a hipster – mix your skater skirt with tennis shoes. If leather is not your thing, or it’s too much to wear to work or school, opt for other fabrics and keep your hem longer or shorter depending on your preference and occasion. Keep it basic or classy with simple cuts and colors: black, white, nude, red or blue. Or have fun with it: floral, funky prints, neon shades, stripes, dots, lace etc. Make sure the waist is high enough so that it’ll make your legs look endless (especially if you’re wearing heels or wedges) and tuck your top in.

I have to say, I think the skater skirt is probably that thing in your closet you always wear, and it gets your out of a fashion trouble so often – you just gotta to love it. And in summer it’s the perfect go to piece whether you’re on vacation, working your ass of in the office, or going out for drinks with your friends.

”Elvis has (yet) to leave the building” my lovely fashionistas. With all this ’70′s comeback in 2013 Spring/Summer, and today’s Jumpsuits topic, no wonder my mind literally jumps to all those (hideous) jumpsuits from back in the day, starting with Elvis Presley (and his white over the top uber glam stage outfits) and ending with ABBA & those disco-kitsch uniforms of pop/rock stars from the ”Drugs, Sex & Rock’n Roll” age. But as much as we love (NOT) those tight spandex glittery neon bright circus costumes, going by the name of jumpsuits, designers sure deserve our kudos for how they’ve played up, nipped, tucked and reinvented the classic-with-a-twist jumpsuit. From Prabal Gurung to Diane Von Furstenberg, BCBG et all, 2013 S/S is such a brilliant reminiscing of those 70′s in the best way possible. The aforementioned gurus of style and fashion have taken this working class uniform/once kitsch stage costume and did a 180 on it, luring us with long sleek silhouettes, silky fabrics, fluidity, softness, loose cuts, plunging necklines, bare backs, halter-necks, long sleeves, prints, solid colors. Designs for day & night. For skinny & curvy bodies. For women and girls alike. Sounds too good to be true, isn’t it? Don’t choose to be a non-believer just yet… have a look. What is so captivating about this clothing item I wonder? Besides its inherent indecisiveness, that is. Or is it this very ‘it’s a dress‘, ‘No. It’s a jumpsuit‘, ‘No, get outta here. It’s clearly a pair if trousers and a matching top‘ – sartorial conversation that has us all giving it the double stare, only to end up jumping in on the Jumpsuit Trend? Cause it’s none of the above. But it could be. Hell it can be. It can mimic a dress, and a matchy matchy top and bottom outfit. Ah… how we love a bit of controversy every now and then. Though I might be a little hasty on this one, I will risk a tiny assumption: not everyone digs the once Si-Fi suit, right? Let’s just say it might take more than one date to fall in love with it. Jumpsuits have always given me that WTF reaction and a quick hand dismissal as I came across one on the shop rails. Then, I’d see it on a gorgeous girl, and I felt bad about giving it the cold shoulder. But that was a few years ago. Cause jumpsuits did try to push through in fashion earlier than 2013. They just never stuck, I guess. And now that I think about it I wonder why? Who is to blame for their 2013 huge comeback? Is it designers alone? Celebs donning evening jumpsuits on the red carpet like crazy? Or, is it us? The regulars and non-VIPs who make street style a source of inspo & trends? Best part about the jumpsuit? Actually there are a few:

• it fits absolutely every body type
• it can adapt to any occasion & event (work, going out, chilling with your best friend over a cup of tea, cocktail parties, dinners)
• it’s classy & sophisticated
• it’s easy to wear, dress up or down

I think the ultimate touch of glamour & sophistication is that of a one color Jumpsuit, in a silky fluid, slightly slouchy fabric, with a metallic belt, (maybe) pockets, bare back VS plunging neckline.

Black jumpsuits & how to dress them up & down:For daytime I love the floral printed jumpsuits in delicate textures, that just make me think of this retro, chic, incredibly beautiful hot woman coming home from work, with a bottle of wine and fresh bread in her grocery bag. She looks put together yet careless in her style (red nails, posh bag, earrings, shades and untamed hair) which makes her so much more enticing. But you see… when talking Jumpsuits as a 2013 Summer Trend, the sky’s the limit. So if fluidity, silky fabrics and a too-feminine style is not for you, there are still plenty of fish in the sea of jumpsuits. Denim. Structured. Metallic.  Boy’ish cuts, psychedelic prints, funky styles. Though I was a hard shell to crack on this Jumpsuits craze, they got to me. And for that I blame the long silky super feminine one-color jumpsuit worn with sky high heels. Effortlessly feminine, sexy & sophisticated. I’m hooked. And that’s the truth. How about you?

Do you think it’s true, or is it just me? Are we smitten with the MAXI Skirt or what? Easy to style, versatile, super feminine and a camouflage weapon for those days when, as hot as we may look, we feel quite the opposite, but (being fashionistas all the way) we still  can’t give in to a sloppy look. Though it’s been around for some seasons now, and designers keep bringing it to their collections in both seasons, the MAXI Skirt still leads the way, and I think it’s never been as MAXI of a trend as it is in 2013 Summer. What is amazing about this year, (as a consequence of the 2000′s  eclectic trait I think) is that it seems to me the MAXI Skirt has reinvented itself and earned more ground by bringing together all its previous style fads as long as they keep one common ground: it’s MAXI read long. I know… I’m talking about the maxi skirt as if it’s a person. Yeah, I tend to lose it sometimes.  So, is every possible long skirt design you can think of, IN? Probably. As long as the feature betrayed by its very name is intact,  design & color wise the sky is the limit. Prints of all sorts, pleats, jersey straight high slit skirts, see-through, high or low-waisted, one-color, bright, hem brushing the floor, ankle long, slit (in front, back, right, left or both sides) – and feel free to add your own anytime, are just a few designs a maxi comes in. Style wise it goes with absolutely anything, hence its versatility and the fact that you can take it to a dinner, a date, a cocktail party or even to the beach. Actually, investing into one (well OK, more) would be the wisest thing to do, especially because you can stretch it all into your winter looks with boots and tights… Yep. It is literally the best staple these days. MAXI Skirts with heels! Ah… this is a perfect look for an evening out or for an event. It’s feminine and effortless and it has that sophisticated rich vibe to it. Here are a few looks for fashion inspo… MAXI Skirts with flats are the perfect combo for a casual stroll or for the office. Pick one in one color and pair it with a simple T-shirt and a blazer and you’re the definition of chic.  MAXI Skirts with tennis shoes are one of my faves looks. Cute, girly, effortless, young and free.  How to choose your MAXI Skirt? To avoid any regrets simply buy as many as you feel like it A pleated one color skirt is amazing for any event and can easily adapt to so many occasions. So… it’s an investment you have to make. The ones in black and nude are perfect for a understated glamorous elegant sophisticated look. I adore them! But my MAXI skirt crush at the moment is the one that comes in emerald green and peach or orange. For those of you who love a bit of boho-chicness in their style the printed gypsy style MAXI skirts are amazing! Extremely trendy and feminine they can make a huge fashion statement and need no extra frills to spice up the look: a basic top and a few blings will have you looking like an exotic model.  And as of this year, we’re seeing a lot of those 90′s style type of MAXI jersey skirts. Think urban glam or Rihanna’s collection for River Island. They’re more sporty chic, fitted, with a high slit on the side usually, ankle length hem, and look brilliant with a bare midriff and tennis shoes! For a more bad-ass urban look pile on jewellery and rock some crazy nails and shades. Don’t know about you but I am in love with this trend and I do hope it still stretches out into the cold season, cause there are so many looks and styles to don with the MAXI skirt that I feel one season (though it’s been around for more) would never be enough. I might be a bit too late on reporting this trend, since it’s been going on for a while now courtesy of Kristen Stewart & Rihanna – for celeb reference – and again the ’90′s, which I swear are invading us all over again. Not complaining, but just saying. It does sometimes feel like high-school all over again. Yet, this Knotted Tops Trend is, thank God reinvented, cause let’s face it, we wouldn’t all want to channel Britney Spears or Christina Aguillera with those skin tight low-waisted jeans and ultra fitted tops tied right below the bras while singing ’Ooops I did it again’. Oh no. Today’s trend is more flattering and easy to wear by all ages, sizes and styles. Not to mention it’s got a bit of retro to it, if we’re to talk about the knotted shirts Eva Mendes is always strutting the streets in, looking super hot. How to do this trend? Tie a know on either your shirts or T-shirts and you’ll get a careless fun looking style. The key is a showing a bit of bare midriff and balancing your silhouette, though truth is, this knotted trend is pretty flattering as it is, cause it accentuates the waist and elongates the legs, but you have to do it with high waisted bottoms: shorts, jeans, skirts of all lengths. If you choose a loose top that you tie a knot to, you can play around with sizes on your bottoms and wear them tight (skinny jeans, straight skirts, tight cut-offs) or you can channel your inner Tom boy and feel comfy and chic in oversized trousers or jeans or maxi skirts. If you”re going for the tight knotted top, you might want to balance it all with loose trousers or jeans and large or maxi skirts to avoid looking… ’90′s trashy, cheap or desperate. And now let’s talk Knotted Shirts! You can tie a knot to any shirt you’ve got, or even borrow one from your husband, brother or boyfriend, because even it’s a few sizes too big, it’ll still look great once to tighten it up to your waist. Or you can buy those shirts that are already designed to be knotted. The knotted shirt look is fantastic for casual styles or even for work, if you don’t expose your stomach. You can wear them with jeans, trousers, skirts and even dresses. Yep, when it comes to knotted shirts you can layer all you want: tank tops, t-shirts, dresses, bodices. You’ll look effortlessly sophisticated and I think quite retro in a very modern way. Do the cat-eye shades and big bag for a complete look. For crispy mornings add a blazer or jacket on top. Yay, more layers. When it comes to the knotted t-shirt I must say, I’m addicted to this look. I literally wrinkled all my tank tops and t-shirts on one side. The style is so cool and chic that I can’t get enough of, and I think it looks so flattering with skinny high waisted jeans, or cut-offs. You can tie a knot on a side as loose or tight as you like, in the front or in the back. When Kristen Stewart was doing this look a few years ago everyone was WTF, but now we”re all channeling our inner rocknroll meets boho-chic persona. While Kstew started this trend (let’s just assume that) Rihanna made some money with it. Ka-ching! Her River Island collection is literally packed with knots. She’s designed them on tank-tops, t-shirts, skirts and dresses. And she’s wearing them all just to prove how fantastic they look. Don’t know about you but I love them. It’s a cheeky fun grunge-meets-glam style that can be donned with sneakers, boots or high heels. As for the bling – pile pile pile dolls! Ha! I know I’m obsessed. Or what you can do is wear those body-chain-jewelry, that will look amazing from underneath your knotted top. Just a tiny sight of skin and bling will make any knotted outfit a hit.  The Knotted Tops Trend is that trend that basically gives more lives to a top, which can be worn as it is, loose, tucked in, or knotted in so many ways that it will look as if you’re rocking a different shirt or t-shirt every time. I loved tying my shirts and t-shirts in high-school, and I love it now. It’s careless yet sophisticated. And it can even look polished in a very retro effortless way, or bohemian/edgy if you feel like it.

After what seems to have been too long since I’ve posted, I’m genuinely so happy to be back and share with you the happiest moment of my life so far. It took place over the weekend, and took over my schedule entirely last week, hence my absence – I got married. To the best man ever. My best friend. It was all as I had pictured it. Perfect. Ah… (I can do a post on the whole event, dress, bridesmaids etc, if you’d like). Anyway, today it’s business as usual so let’s dig in the fashion dirt dolls. In 2013 summer nothing will ever beat the T-shirt looks. Laid back & extremely versatile these staples can dress you up or down, making it all super chic & sophisticated. The key to a T-shirt look is balance and remembering that it’s all bout clashing styles. A T shirt is a sports attire, too laid back, simple & quite androgynous, so wearing it with the opposite attires usually translates in uber trendy styles that scream sophistication. So with this T shirt invasion that’s upon us, what do we pick? Errr… apparently the latest fad in town is looking like those billionaire laid back ballers. Or their girlfriends who just woke up in their basketball t-shirts. The Varsity Shirt or the Basketball T-shirt look is one trend that’s getting more and more followers. So is there a way around this men inspired style? Can we look feminine and posh in an oversized boyfriend’s sports T-shirt? That we’re obsessed with stealing our men’s clothes and tying them into our own styles (they do look so much better) is of no news. I mean don’t get me started on the BF jeans, blazers, shirts or loafers. Ah well… who can blame us if we make it rock. So now we’ve got the Varsity T-shirts to obsess about. It’s sort of a stretch of the fall/winter trend of the Varsity Jacket. Following the same rules this trend is a niche look of the Sports Luxe obsession, so in order to nail it you have to keep in mind a few tips:

• balance the look with lots of fun bling jewelry (golden rings, bangles and earrings look amazing clashed against the basketball shirt)
• wear sexy shoes, hot heels to elongate legs and turn you into a urban chic sophisticated gal
• don a baseball cap for some hipster vibe, but keep the rest as girly as you can
• paint your nails or wear bold lips for an extra feminine touch, and don a Varsity mini dress with hot heels for a night out. It’s loose, laid back yet uber trendy. Think Rihanna or Miley Cyrus.

OK, so donning the baller look is fine for going out, laid back styles, but what about work? Can we do the baller look at the office? Really? Yes. The key this time is keeping it simple jewelry wise. So a statement necklace or statement earrings are enough. Th t-shirt has to be rather understated itself, tucked in a pencil skirt or tapered trousers and paired with a business style blazer. Classic pumps, bag, and a hint of lipstick for a touch of femininity and off you go. It’s very sophisticated without the slightest effort. Think front row editors at Fashion Week. Then of course it’s the all sporty look: varsity shirt & cutoffs, tennis shoes. But even so you can keep your girly persona intact by adding a bit of bling or lipstick.  Aaaand one of my favorite looks is the Varsity t-shirt/dress Style. I love it. It’s so style-confusing and edgy in a very funky way that I find it irresistible. It probably won’t make it past this summer, but who gives a crap, it’s hot while it lasts. You can wear it with those single strap sandals I was telling you about last week, or even sneakers for a more relaxed style. My tip on this one is to pile on jewelry, wear bold lips, cool shades and a posh bag. I swear, 2013 summer belongs to the T-shirts and I really do feel as if we’ve just barely scratched the surface on the t-shirts looks for this season. With the risk of being redundant I might just keep on covering the T-shirts trend this week… but until next post, let’s debate on this one: YES or NO to the basketball shirt trend?

Every summer, celebrities take out their best attire and inspire our fashion choices. But since it’s sunglasses we’re interested in, let’s have a look at some of the most popular styles of the season, according to our favorite stars. We found seven trends that we love, and we think you should consider wearing them while summer still lasts:

1. Cat eye sunglasses. These have been around for a while, but this summer it looks like they’re moving away from their ’50′s roots and into more modern shapes. They now come with embellishments of sorts, in irregular shapes, and can even be worn by men (if they dare). 2. Clear frames. These look great on both glasses and sunglasses, they’re unisex and very versatile. You might see them on round, square, cat eye or butterfly-shaped frames. Summer is the perfect season to wear them, as they’re light, yet eye-catching.  3. Embellished frames. Why wear plain sunglasses when you can show your DIY skill on them? Glue pearls, glitter, rhinestones and even studs on your old frames and you instantly get an updated, modern style. Or just buy them ready made. 4. Keyhole sunglasses. This style is especially used with round sunglasses, but it may sometimes be combined with rectangular or cat eye frames. Initially used in men’s sunglasses, the keyhole bridge trend has quickly become unisex. 5. Mirror lenses. They were long forgotten when, last year, they started showing more and more often on street style blogs. Mirror lenses can be blue, yellow, green or even pink, and no star in their right mind could stay away from them. 6. Pentagonal sunglasses. This is a new shape in fashion, popularized by Miu Miu. Most of the ladies below are actually wearing Miu Miu sunglasses! The golden frames, with or without glitter, made fashion statements all around this summer. 7. Red frames. We already know from red lipstick that no other color looks so good on everyone’s face! What happens when you take two massive trends like Leather & Black and you mix them? You end up, again, on the grunge road, with infinite trends awaiting to be nailed. So don’t be surprised if 2013 – 2014 autumn & winter will give us leather everything in the most adored non color of all times. Black. The leather jackets we’ve done. Still can’t get enough of. Same goes for leather trousers. Which leaves leather tops (a future post) and… LEATHER SKIRTS. They’ve been having their moment for a while now, with bloggers and fashionistats wearing them like crazy in summer, but the trend is spreading on to the cold season big time. And the best part about it is that ALL leather skirts are in: skater, pencil, mini, A-line, in all colors. Today, though, we’ll be discussing the BLACK MINI FITTED LEATHER SKIRT.

For 2013 Fall, the leather skirt is the staple to have, if not for its inherent trend feature, then for its style versatility: from grunge, to glam, to girly, to preppy, to smart, to sporty luxe or rock glam, this black little thang can transform itself like crazy. Buying one, will probably pay off big time as you can wear it from work to weekends with just a few fashion tricks up your sleeve. Really? Is styling a black mini leather skirt so easy? And are there no ”Don’ts’‘ to this trend? The biggest DON’T when it comes to leather skirts is those super short, painted-on latex styles, that’ll have us looking cheap & desperate. Also avoid pairing them with a same-texture tiny leather jacket and thigh high heeled black leather boots. We would’t want to come across like we’re channeling some street corner prostitute.  BUT… yes, there is a ‘but’ even here, donning an all leather look (read skirt & jacket) can still be achieved and look uber cool, with an extra care to details: masculine shoes, big bag, toned down makeup, natural hair. (this girl, for example, is doing the all-leather-thigh-high-boots Look and pulls it off amazingly! It’s about her looking effortless, girly and confident with natural hair and minimal makeup.) Balance The best leather skirt look for autumn remains the glam grunge meets sophisticated woman look. How to do it? 

• knitted jumpers
• cable knit oversized sweaters
• tucked in for more waist definition
• covering the skirt for a more grunge or boho chic style
• ankle boots (all styles work)
• oxford shoes
• sneakers
• wedges
• blazers look amazing for office styles
• trench-coats, parkas or coats are super chic
• tights for cold days
• T-shirts for a grunge style
• cardigans for a more cosy vibe

But can we wear leather skirts to work? How? The key is balance and making it all look feminine and chic. Think editors at fashion week.

• all topped with crispy blazers or those CHANEL little jackets

• classic pumps (avoid those stripper platform heels. too much!)

Probably the best look for autumn, and a definite getting-it-right would be sticking to a simple cable knit sweater or going all black. As long as you’re wearing one of the boots styles that are huge this season (ankle, tick heeled, flat, cut-out, motorcycle, lace ups, wedges) and keep your outfit simple, allowing the skirt to take all the attention, you’ll look fantastic. If however we want to go more on the glam sophisticated side, it’s all in the bling (statement necklaces & rings) and textures. Mix fabrics: leather, lace, sheer, silk,  cashmere, beads, sequins. Keep one thing in mind though, when going all the way, you need to keep at least one thing toned down: face, hair or shoes. My fave leather skirt look remains the ankle boots, motorcycle boots or wedges with a black T-shirt or jersey style top, statement necklace and a black boyfriend blazer on top. Massive bag and some wayfarers. Everything in matte textures. When buying your leather fitted skirt make sure it has a high waist. Quilted and zipper ones look fabulous. So do the ones with asymmetric cuts or pockets. If this will be your statement piece for the cold season, go wild on its style. You’ll be wearing the crap out of it I promise. Glitter, sparkles and anything pink comes with the territory of being a girl, right? You don’t even need to be one of those ladies with a passion for fashion, cause you’re still guilty as charged for the pink crush, from back in your childhood days, when draping yourself in pink & glitter was the best thing ever. So if fashion trends get inspired from all sorts of weird things, why not speculate on women’s inherent girly personas, right?

That’s what I thought. Besides, in this fashion trend amalgam of all grunge punk black rocknroll stuff, a bit of unicorn love was bound to happen. Actually this pink comeback is kinda refreshing. The sight of a pink coat over… whatever basically has got enough retro/ladylike vibe to last us a lifetime. But could we have foreseen the Pink COATS Trend for 2013 – 2014 Autumn/Winter? Grunge wise: no. Punk wise: yeah… a little bit (think neon pink). Retro: now you’re talking. 50′s & 60′s retro looks are making quite the comeback this season, just remember Mulberry’s fall 2013 collections. Those pink dusted soft cozy understated rich, and uber feminine coats from their collections took me back to Marilyn Monroe days. 

Are all pink coats IN, though? I always say, if you love it, wear it. If you can rock whatever weird looking thing, do it.

But, for the sake of trends & looks argument let’s discuss the coat looks for this season. It’s all about shape, in a very androgynous, unflattering way, but still so feminine. While fitted coats, that hug our curves are probably still in (who’s to say they’re not, anyway?) this fall’s coat trend evolves around a more retro man-inspired shape.

V-deep plunging necklines, broad shoulders, slightly oversized, huge pockets, above the knee lengths. OR boyfriend styles. OR uber long coats, like those glam actresses form classic black and white films. Though they may not follow a woman’s line, and actually look a bit unflattering on our silhouettes, there’s something quite refreshing and irresistible about concealing and misleading the eyes. Sort of like saying: “I’m so confident I could rock a garbage bag and look hot! Who needs fitted lines when you’ve got a sexy attitude!” In regards to HOW Pink bright to go, or not… I think it’s safe to say it’s all a matter of personal taste and what looks good on you. Personally I prefer the dusted pink tones coats, just cause I would never feel confident enough to rock a bright pink coat. It does look fab, I’ll give you that. What to wear them with? Pink Coats are extremely versatile, as they can translate to almost any look, injecting a dose of femininity and class to whatever outfit you’re wearing. So you may go Marilyn or Jackie Kennedy in soft fabrics, cashmere tops, pencil skirts, kitten heels and those huge sunglasses. OR you may go all 2013 grungy. What? Just try to don denim, leather, and tons of bling with a pink coat, you’ll see what I’m talking about. Other look options include: modern classy (think office appropriate), any-decade-retro (for example 70s: uber long pink coat over an-over-the-knee A-line dress), androgynous (high-waisted trousers, blazer, loafers) and so on.

Whoever said size does not matter, clearly had no idea what they were saying. Fashion wise. Let’s keep this conversation unsoiled.

For the past year everyone seems to have a slight obsession towards going up a few sizes, hence the oversized coats, sweaters, and boyfriend borrowed looks. Have we just had enough of the bombshell looks, that we now couldn’t care less if we come across as stylish hobos or oversexed pop stars? Even the golden rule of style – balance – is every now and then ditched in favor of comfy meets quirkiness (the rule – if your bottoms are tight, your top has to be slouchy and vice versa – is suddenly dated). I would have thought though, a few items would never make it to the oversized shortlist. Ha! Think again, said the Leather Trousers. When you hear about this new trend - Baggy Leather Trousers – you immediately say wtf. Buuut, once you see them… you may just reconsider. Sure not all baggy styles look great on leather, but some are actually pretty fantastic. It’s all a hip hop meets glam combo. Or a late 80′s meets 2013 urban glam or sporty luxe thing. It’s cool, effortless and this way you may just be able to pull off leather trousers style for work.

While the skin tight looks are still in (think it’s safe to assume they will always be hot), this slouchy version of the leather trousers does make it more appropriate for various situations. Sure, eventually it depends how edgy (read baggy) you’re going with this look as well, but, at the end of the day, any piece of clothing that is less fitted and slightly oversized, will look a bit more tamed rather than sexy. On where this Baggy Leather thing came from, safe to say it’s one more extension of the boyfriend look. I mean up to now, it was just men who wore baggy leather trousers. They would have looked a bit too exposed in skin tight. As much as we loved those 80s and 90s with Bon Jovi and Axl Rose rocking the shit out of our generation… some things are better left in the past.

Personally I love how fashion is always switching up between trends and looks, inventing or redesigning weird-at-first-sight-styles. Gives us a chance to experiment and express ourselves. Having said that, let’s see what the fuss is with these baggy leather trousers.

Basically there are 2 versions of this trend:

1. The leather sweatpants (remember my sweatpants & heels post? something like that only with a different fabric. It’s somehow a tamed down version of what pop stars and celebs wear on stage.)
2. The tailored oversized leather trousers. Hence the baggy name. They can be any style, resembling a suit or tapered version of the trousers, high waisted, boot-cut, wide leg, or au contraire tight around the ankles.

What to wear with Baggy Leather Trousers? Anything. They are normal trousers in a more edgy, glam, sophisticated fabric. What’s great about these is that the looser cut makes them a bit more work appropriate. They look very professionally chic when paired with a blouse or T-shirt and a blazer. Shoes wise. Again anything works. personally I love how they look with heels. Overall, when not extremely oversized, the baggy leather trousers trend is quite fantastic. It’s sophisticated yet effortless.

OK, I am officially declaring the Boyfriend Trend as the biggest trend of 2012 – 2013. And by boyfriends I don’t mean the hunky lucky bastards in our lives, but their clothes. Ah… what would we do and be (fashion wise) without them? Pardon my shallowness  on this one, but we’re talking fashion here, not rocket science. Although in some cases the sartorial side in our lives is crucial. OK. In most cases, if not all.

So following on Coco Chanel’s steps we find ourselves borrowing sweaters, T-shirts, sweatshirts, blazers, even trousers from our men’s wardrobes, translating all these otherwise lifeless pieces into style must-haves, trends and extremely coveted looks. Cause it’s not what you wear, but how you wear it that counts most, hence the return of so many before-regarded-as-boring-items. (a simple black or white boyfriend tee). Continuing our men inspired looks journey we dip not only into clothing items, but also into accessories. One of my fave men accessory has always been the baseball hat. I always found boys who just carelessly threw one on as so hot and cheeky… and it turns out I wasn’t the only one adoring this look so much to emulate it.

But if boys can throw on a baseball hat just about anywhere… why can’t girls do the same? Never underestimate a woman’s capacity to reinvent and mix styles, to play around with fashion. We not only borrowed our men’s baseball hats for casual, sporty days, but ended up wearing this cool head piece anywhere. Even to work, or going out. With heels & skirts as well. Besides its uber cool vibe,  a baseball cap is a perfect way to keep your 2nd, 3rd, 4th day hair a secret. Or why not, to protect you form the sun or the rain. Are all baseball hats in? I would think so, all it takes is finding the right one for you, although designers and high street brands are having a blast bombarding us with the most funky baseball hats styles ever. Statement pieces like: leather, studded, colored, texts, printed. You name it. The funkier the better. As a style rule, the key is to just treat it as any hat, any accessory you want to add to your outfit, disregarding its once-only-sporty-trait. Basically what a baseball hat does is balance a very glam or polished look, making it more fun and urban style. Yeah, it takes a while getting used to wearing a baseball hat and heels, but you could start off with a baseball hat and a dress, or a skirt and tennis shoes. See how you feel. For extra hotness and nailing this look 100% you must go wild on accessories (chunky necklaces, big earrings, rigs, bracelets) and bold lips. For more drama, throw in some shades.  With the cold season right around the corner, it’s a bit easier pulling off this look, as the baseball cap blends in nicely with any jacket or coat. Shoes wise it goes with both heels as well as flats. Is it really that easy, though? Mixing any baseball hat with any outfit? The trick is to get that effortless, on-the-go look, and find a balance between your clothes and the baseball hat.

Never thought I’d say this but I’m pretty ready to trade in my mini skirt hems for longer ones, like over-the-knees, half-calves ones. Am I really getting that old? Or am I just a fashion victim? Unhappy with either possibilities, but forced to pick one, I’m gonna go with the latter, just cause my spirit hasn’t aged a day since I was 20. Fashion has this power over me to just throw out the window my delusional self assertion of being a mature consistent coherent woman. While in life I try to keep myself maniac-free, inhibiting my getting-bored-too-soon impulses (or my ADD), when it comes to fashion I’m the exact opposite. Does this make me mad? Well no. Other things do, but that’s another story. It actually makes me quite sane, style wise, cause fashion is an inconsistent bitch who one day is praising mini skirts and the next is all about longer hems. So I, therefore, am only in tune with its brilliant inconsistencies.

But just when you thought you can’t get this little bitch all figured out, I dawns on you: it’s a cycle. It’s all a stylish un-harmful karma of what goes around comes around. Only in fashion, old and new/past and present live well side by side with the help of reinvention.According to the world of sartorialists, in 2013 – 2014 Autumn & Winter this is what it’s all about. The return of the past with 2 major trends: PUNK & 40s/50s skirts style. Dita Von Teese’s burlesque stubbornness was bound to have a major impact at some point, right?

FULL MIDI SKIRTS are massive this season, urging us all to channel our fairytale-meets-Grace-Kelly persona. These skirts that look like beautiful explosions resting on our lower body scream exaggerated beauty. Whether in toned down hues or bold neon shades, prints or patterns these full shapes make us all look like retro dolls in a very modern sophisticated way. But how easy is pulling off a full skirt look? I say pretty NOT easy at all. First of all there’s the unlikeness one might take in this very style (I was guilty as charged, but not anymore as I so egocentrically professed in the beginning), which, when resolved, forces you to face a bigger problem: HOW TO STYLE a FULL MIDI Skirt? And avoid looking frumpy or swallowed up into a big ball of fabric.

The one thing that comes to our rescue is none other than good ol’ BALACE, that I, more often than not, tell it to go fuck itself. So apparently the key to nailing this retro chic housewife look is keeping your top as tiny and fitted as you can, and your shoes as posh as possible. Sexy heels, pointed toes, sandals and pumps – it’s your time to shine! When donning the full midi skirt you may want to to keep it classy all the way and pair it with one of those tiny sweaters. Or, you may just as well make use of today’s debauchery and wear a plain damn hot bustier. Or cropped top.  Can’t believe I’m actually gonna say this again, but you know what? To hell with balance on this one too, I mean the way this hot mess of a skirt looks with a slightly oversized shirt tucked in, or with anything a few sizes up (T-shirt, sweatshirt, blouse) is pretty irresistible. Why is that, I wonder? I think it all has to do with the nipped waist. Basically as long as you make sure to show off your waist I’m sure you can pull off any top, be it fitted or not. If however you’re not such a Dita Von Teese kinda gal (I know I’m not. Love her. Adore her style, it’s just not for me.) why not mix this retro skirt style with the other big trend of the season? PUNK, and its versions. Leather jackets, graphic tees, boots, tennis shoes etc… It does look amazing! Or… if a ball of fabric, though exquisitely made, is still too much for you, but you adore the midi style, you can still do a version of the full skirt. PLEATED MIDI Skirt is the way to go. Remember those 70s & 80s dresses and skirts our moms used to wear? That’s the one. My mom looked just fabulous in hers.

Something about that longer hem, flowy fabric just brushing off your calves as you make your way through the crowd of the town, on your way to work, or some posh new place to meet with your girls. A trench coat or long fur coat on top (like Carrie Bradshaw used to wear on her dates with Mr. Big) & some super hot heels will complete this fab look. What do you think ladies? Having to wait until you put a ring on it, or hoping (without result) to travel in the past to wear a veiled hat is no longer required as of recently. Since 2012 to be more precise. That’s when VEILS donned in plain day started making a slight comeback courtesy of Jil Sander‘s collection at Fashion Week and some quirky hot women who decided that covering up your face in sheer fine black fabric is so much more mysterious than going bare faced.

Today – in 2013 -2014 Fall/Winter – the veiled beanies are quite the fad in town, as everyone is rocking them in the hope to elude the past and the so-very-dated-social-and-style-donts. Today’s fashion is all about being yourself through style, experimenting with clothes and looks, so nothing is dated, all is IN. Therefore it actually comes as no surprise that accessories such as veils, hats or beanies are in the spotlight. More so, they’re mixed and matched into this new trend everyone’s kinda loving: VEILED BEANIES! Forget the classic 1940′s hat, or the bride’s white veil. Today it’s all about this eclectic mix, that may have us looking like demented fashionstas in the eyes of sartorial non-connoisseurs. But who gives a fuck?

Veils in the past: Veils today… Truth is the sporty/comfy style of a beanie is in perfect marriage with the posh, mysterious elegant way of a black sheer veil. What? It’s from the same fashion-page as the heels and sweatpants. Well… maybe just a little bit. Okay, it may not be such a fortunate ensemble at first sight thought, but there’s something about the marriage of opposites that makes this weird little thang quite a cool trend.

Why wear a plain ol’beanie when you can jazz it up with a vintage or not-so-vintage veil? It keeps us warm, looks good and it’s different. You can buy it as it is – veiled beanie – or, you can DIY, by adding any type of veil to any hat or beanie and keep switching the sheer fabric from one to another. Ta-daaa! How to wear veiled beanies? I love how they look with a sporty outfit & heels (think ankle boots). It’s a bit edgy and quite effortless.

Bold lips looks amazing, and perfectly made up lashes with tons of mascara add that sophisticated drama we so love. Statement earrings complete this chic look. So I guess a veiled beanie makes you splurge on accessories and pay more attention to details, rather than give great thought to what you wear it with. Cause, at the end of the day a beanie is a beanie and that ladies, goes with anything. Veiled or not. Still… can’t help but wonder why this look was so successful? Are we so nostalgic for the past, or is there pure truth in the-less-you-reveal-the more-you-appeal thing? A veil, be it white, pink, or black spiderweb style translates mystery, an enticing barrier you set between the world and yourself, thus making everyone else linger more on the thought of what hides behind a sheer fabric, that’s barely even there. Not knowing will always have more power than knowing it all. It’s pure seduction. Raw mystery. Or even if that’s not what you’re going for, the subtle coverage implies something forbidden, which implies the impulse of wanting to see it, to have it. Everything leads to sex. Or the idea of sexuality. Actually, from a distance it looks as if you’ve got a dirty face rubbed in the dirt, or a wasp of bees around your head. It’s your wasp. Your bees. True that, but still… You might just come across as if you lost it there for a second.Whoever questions fashion may be crazier than those doing fashion. Depends where you’re standing.

I know you’re tempted to say ”both. doh.” but just think about it. If you had to choose one of the 2… which would it be? One with laces the other without. Both styles are courtesy of the 90′s comeback & grungy/dark/Nirvana-meets-Guns’Roses-looks. Add some punk in there, it is back in fashion anyway, and you pretty much summed up the biggest trends since 2012.

These heel-less ankle boots, however similar they look and translate into similar styles, making your outfit appear effortless, grungy, rocknroll or punk, you know what they say – the Devil is always in the details, and for small style variations on this 90′s theme each boot comes with its own spin on the look. Combat boots are a little above the ankle, lace-ups, more fitted around your foot, can be worn with laces tied up (super fitted, sort of punk style) or laces un-tied and left disheveled as if you had no time to properly put them on (sort of 90′s grunge look). Some have buckles & studs for extra drama, some come in vintage looking styles as if you’ve worn them for decades but cost you a week’s rent. They look fantastic with skinny jeans, leggings, tights & cutoffs, skirts, dresses, coats, jackets. If a laid back model off duty style is what you’re going for, they seem to be the best option. Moto Boots, on the other hand, are, since their 2012 comeback, still going strong be it summer or winter, and are perhaps a more tamed version of the punk grungy shoe style. They don’t have laces & they’re not fitted around you’re ankles. They usually have a zipper on the side or they’re loose enough for your foot to slide in. Yes they look as masculine & harsh as their siblings, but something about them makes them less heavy. Maybe the buckles or studs they usually come adorned with, or their shorter length (right around the ankle), but they seem more grungy-girly, rather than badass rocknroll.

Or maybe their ubiquity for the past year tamed them a little bit. I mean, it’s the same as the leather jackets. Since every girl and woman out there is wearing these biker boots all the time, (having nothing in common with the grunge trend, their boot option being none other than a passion for fashion), well there goes these boots’ initial rocnkroll statement. Right out the window. Let the boot battle begin – Combat VS Moto Boots looks: 

Combat Boots: Motorcycle/Biker Boots (click here for more styles and tips): I guess this is what happens with certain staples that used to belong only to a certain niche or style… if everyone is doing them, they’re bound to change their meaning and (don’t get me wrong) their fashion strength. I think we need something new asap.

Which brings me to the combats. Their sort of new comeback in fashion makes them somewhat new to the moto boot, right? Or not?Clearly they do have tons in common with the biker boots, and the style you get with either of them is basically the same, but which ones do you like best? I swear the more I think about it the more I’m confused. I used to adore biker boots, and would pick them over any other flat style shoe, but now… I’m not so sure. The idea of channeling an off duty model (in my distorted reality that is) is so appealing I might just consider the combat boots for now.
